WEATHER FORECAST FOR 26 September 2021

The showery condition over the south-western part of the country, is expected to be enhanced due to active South-west monsoon condition.

Showers or thundershowers will occur at times in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central and Northwestern provinces and in Galle and Matara districts. Heavy showers above 100 mm can be expected at some places in these areas.

Showers or thundershowers will occur at a few places in the Eastern and Uva provinces in the evening or night.

General public is kindly requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.

Fairly strong winds up to 50 kmph can be expected in the western slope of central hills, Northern, North-Central and North-Western provinces and in Hambantota and Trincomalee districts.

WEATHER FORECAST FOR SEA AREAS AROUND THE ISLAND DURING NEXT 24 HOURS Issued at 12.00 noon on 25 September 2021

The deep depression located over North Bay of Bengal lay centered near latitude 18.4N and longitude 89.7E. This system is very likely to intensify into a cyclonic storm during next 12 hours.

Naval and fishing communities are advised not to venture into the sea areas around latitude 16.0N and 20.0N longitude 85.0E and 95.0E until further notice.

Condition of Rain:

Showers or thundershowers will occur at times in the sea areas extending from Mannar to Hambantota via Colombo and Galle. Heavy falls are likely at some places. Showers or thundershowers may occur at several places in the other sea areas around the island.

Winds:

Winds will be south-westerly in direction and wind speed will be (30-40) kmph in the sea areas around the island. The wind speed can be increased up to (50-60) kmph at times in the sea areas extending from Puttalam to Pottuvil via Colombo, Galle and Hambantota.

State of Sea:

The sea areas extending from Puttalam to Pottuvil via Colombo, Galle and Hambantota will be rough at times. The other sea areas around the island may be fairly rough at times.

Temporarily strong gusty winds and very rough seas can be expected during thundershowers.

The showery condition over the south-western part of the island is likely to enhance during next few days.

Tonight:

Showers or thundershowers will occur at several places in Northern, North-Central, Eastern, Uva and North-Western provinces. Fairly heavy showers above 75 mm can be expected at some places in these areas.

Tomorrow:

Showers or thundershowers will occur at times in the Western, Sabaragamuwa and Central provinces and in Galle and Matara districts. Fairly heavy showers above 50 mm can be expected at some places in these areas.

Showers or thundershowers will occur at several places in the Northern, Eastern and Uva provinces in the evening or night.

General public is kindly requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
