WEATHER FORECAST FOR 22nd FEBRUARY 2018
(Issued at 05.30 a.m. on 22nd February 2018)

A slight change in the prevailing dry weather is expected from 24th of February.

Several spells of showers may occur in the Uva province and in the Ampara and Hambantota districts.
Showers or thundershowers may occur at a few places in the Galle, Matara and Ratnapura districts after 2.00pm.
Mainly fair weather will prevail in other areas.

There is a slight possibility for Ground frost in the Nuwara-Eliya district during the early hours of the morning.


Quite colder night and morning also can expected and the misty conditions can be expected at some places particularly in the southern half of the island during the morning

There may be temporary localized strong winds during thundershowers. General public is kindly requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by lightning activity.

WEATHER FORECAST FOR SEA AREAS AROUND THE ISLAND DURING
NEXT 24 HOURS (Issued at 05.30 a.m. on 22nd February 2018)

Due to an active cloudiness in the South-Eastern sea areas, the possibility for heavy showers or thundershowers and sudden roughness, associated with sudden increase of wind speed (up to 70-80 kmph) in the deep sea areas off the coast extending from Matara to Batticaloa via Hambantota and Potuvil is high.

(Naval and fishing communities are requested to be vigilant in this regards)


Showers or thunder showers will be occur at several places in the sea areas off the coast extending from Galle to Batticaloa via Hambanthota. Mainly fair weather will prevail in the other sea areas around the island.


Winds will be north-easterly in direction in the sea areas and wind speed will be 25-35 kmph.

Sea areas off the coast extending from Mannar to Colombo via Puttalam and also from Hambantota to Potuvil will be fairly rough at times as wind speed increase up to 50 kmph at times.

WEATHER FORECAST FOR NEXT 36 HOURS

(ISSUED AT 1600 HOURS ON 21st FABRUARY 2018)

A slight change in the prevailing dry weather is expected from 24th of February.

 Until then mainly fair weather can be expected to continue over most provinces of the island.

 However there is a possibility for afternoon thundershower at few places in the Rarhnapura, Galle and Mathara districts tonight.

There is a slight possibility for Ground frost in the Nuwara-Eliya district during the early hours of the morning.

Quite colder night and morning also can expect tomorrow and the misty conditions can be expected at some places particularly in the southern half of the island during the morning.
