SPECIAL WEATHER BULLETIN FOR HEAVY RAINFALLS OVER THE COUNTRYAND ROUGH

SEAS OVER SOUTHEASTERN SEA AREA.

VALID UNTIL 15th April 2017

(Issued at 1200hrs on 12th April 2017 by Early Warning Centre of the Department of Meteorology)

An atmospheric disturbance in the vicinity of Sri Lanka is likely to affect the weather over the country and surrounding sea areas. Under its influence showery condition is expected to enhance during next few days (until 15th April 2017) over the country and adjacent sea areas.

Showers or thundershowers will occur over most parts of the island. Heavy showers (more than 100mm) are possible at some places particularly in the Western, North-western, Southern, Sabaragamuwa, Central, Uva and North-central provinces.

Conditions of the sea area

Due to the active cloudiness (associated with a low level disturbance which developed to the southeast of Sri Lanka in the Bay of Bengal) in the deep and shallow sea areas off the coast extending from Matara to Trincomalee via Hambantota and Batticaloa, sudden roughness of the sea areas associated with sudden increase of wind speed (up to 70-80kmph) is possible.

Heavy showers can also be expected in these sea areas.

Navel and fishing communities are requested to be vigilant in this regards.
