Showers will occur at times in Sabaragamuwa, Central, Western, Southern and North-Western provinces.

Wind speed can increase up to (40-50) kmph at times over the island particularly in Northern, North-central and North-western provinces and in Hambantota, Trincomalee and Matale districts and along the western slopes of the central hills.

Coastal inundation is likely along the coast extending from Beruwala to Hambantota via Galle due to the effect of swell waves. People who are living in coastal areas are requested to be vigilant in this regard.

WEATHER FORECAST FOR SEA AREAS AROUND THE ISLAND DURING NEXT 24 HOURS

Condition of Rain

Showers or thundershowers will occur in the sea areas extending from Puttalam to Potuvil via Colombo, Galle and Hambantota.

Winds:

Winds will be South-westerly in the sea areas around the island. Wind speed will be (30-40) kmph. Wind speed can increase up to (60) kmph in the sea area off the coast extending from Kankasanturai to Colombo via Mannar and from Matara to Pottuvil.   The wind speed can increase up to (50) kmph at times in the other sea areas around the island.

State of Sea:

The sea areas extending from Kankasanturai to Colombo via Mannar and from Matara to Pottuvil will be rough.

The other sea areas around the island can be fairly rough at times.

 

There is a possibility that near shore sea areas off the coast extending from Beruwala to Hambantota via Galle, may experience surges due to the effect of swell waves, having  2.0 – 2.5m height (this is not the height of nearshore waves).

 

 

Naval and fishing communities and those who are living in coastal areas are requested to be vigilant in this regard.

Fairly heavy rainfalls above 50 mm are likely at some places in Sabaragamuwa, Western and Central provinces.

Wind speed can increase up to (40-50) kmph at times over the island particularly in Northern, North-central and North-western provinces and in Hambantota, Trincomalee and Matale districts and along the western slopes of the central hills.
