BAD WEATHER WARNING FOR HEAVY SHOWERS, STRONG WINDS AND ROUGH SEA AREAS FOR SOUTH WEST BAY OF BENGOL

VALID FOR NEXT 48 HOURS, ISSUED AT 1100 HRS, 11th December 2016

The very severe cyclonic storm (VARDAH”) in the Bay of Bengal is located (approximately 12.9 N, 84.2 E)around 600 km away from Kankasanturai coast, to the north-east of Sri Lanka and it is likely to move north-westward towards India. It is likely to cross Chennai coast on tomorrow evening.

Under influence of the above system very strong winds (about 100kmph), Very rough sea areasand very heavy showers are expected within 200-300 km of the above center. Sea conditions are not suitable for fishing and naval activities and it is very risky and dangerous.


Due to the active cloudiness in the Northern and North-eastern deep and shallow sea areas, very rough seas can expect associated with sudden increase of wind speed (up to 70-80kmph).

 

Naval and fishing communities are requested to refrain naval and fishing activities today and tomorrow.
