The Cyclonic storm ‘GAJA’ over the Southwest Bay of Bengal further moved westwards and located near latitude-10.4N, Longitude-78.5E at 08.30a.m. on 16th November 2018 approximately 180 km away from Kankasanturai to the northwest of Sri Lanka.

The system is very likely to move westwards and weaken gradually into a deep depression during next 03 hours.

The system is moving away from the country. Hence windy and showery condition in the Northern part of the island and Northern sea area is expected to reduce gradually from today(16) evening.


Showers or thundershowers will occur Central, Sabaragamuwa, North-central, Western and Uva provinces after 2.00p.m.

Light showers can be expected in the Eastern and Northern provinces in the morning.

Fairly heavy showers above 75 mm may occur at some places in and Sabaragamuwa, Central and Uva provinces.

Misty conditions may occur at some places in the Central, Sabaragamuwa and Western provinces during the morning.

There may be temporary localized strong winds during thundershowers. General public is kindly requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by lightning activity.
