Sea areas around the Island

Condition of Rain:

Showers will occur at several places in the sea areas off the coast extending from Puttalam to Matara via Colombo and Galle.

Winds:

Winds will be south-westerly in the sea areas around the island.

The wind speed will be (30-40) kmph and it can increase up to (50-55) kmph at times in the sea areas off the coasts extending from Trincomalee to Puttalam via Mullaittivu, Kankasanthurai and Mannar and from Hambantota to Pottuvil.

The wind speed will be (25-35) kmph in the other sea areas around the island.

State of Sea:

The sea areas off the coasts extending from Trincomalee to Puttalam via Mullaittivu, Kankasanthurai and Mannar and from Hambantota to Pottuvil will be rough at times.

The other sea areas around the island will be moderate.

Bay of Bengal

Weather:

10N - 20N, 80E-100E : Showers or thundershowers at several places.

05N - 10N, 80E-95E : Showers or thundershowers at a few places.

EQ - 02N, 85E-95E : Showers or thundershowers at a few places.

Other sea areas : Mainly fair.

Winds:

15N - 20N, 80E-95E : South-westerly / (40-50) kmph; gusting up to (60-65) kmph.

05N - 15N, 80E-100E : South-westerly / (25-35) kmph; gusting up to 50 kmph.

Other sea areas : South-westerly or Variable / (20-30) kmph.

State of the Sea:

15N - 20N, 80E-95E : Rough, very rough at times.

05N - 15N, 80E-100E : Moderate to fairly rough.

Other sea areas : Slight to moderate.

Arabian Sea

Very strong winds (70-80) kmph, and very rough seas are likely over Arabian Sea area (in sea areas bounded by (09N - 20N) and (55E – 70E)) due to the active south-west monsoonal condition. Naval and fishing communities are advised not to venture into the above sea areas until further notice.
