WEATHER FORECAST FOR 04 May 2024

Showers or thundershowers will occur at several places in Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces and in Galle and Matara districts after 2.00 p.m.

Misty conditions can be expected at some places in Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces and in Galle and Matara districts during the morning.

General public is kindly requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.

WEATHER FORECAST FOR SEA AREAS AROUND THE ISLAND DURING NEXT 24 HOURS

 Issued at 12.00 noon on 03 May 2024.

  Condition of Rain:

Showers or thundershowers will occur at a few places in the sea areas off the coast extending from Colombo to Matara via Galle in the evening or night.

Winds:

Winds will be south-westerly or variable and wind speed will be (20-30) kmph. Wind speed may increase up to (40-45) kmph at times in the sea areas off the coasts extending from Puttalam to Kankasanthurai via Mannar and from Trincomalee to Pottuvil via Batticaloa.

State of Sea:

The sea areas off the coasts extending from Puttalam to Kankasanthurai via Mannar and from Trincomalee to Pottuvil via Batticaloa can be fairly rough at times.

Increase of swell waves (about 2.0 – 2.5 m) can be expected in the sea areas off the coast extending from Kalpitiya to Pottuvil via Colombo, Galle and Hambantota. These sea areas can be rough at times.

Temporarily strong gusty winds and very rough seas can be expected during thundershowers.
