WEATHER FORECAST FOR 08 May 2024

An enhancement of showery condition over most parts of the island is expected during next few days from tomorrow (08th May).

Showers or thundershowers will occur at several places in most provinces of the island after 2.00 p.m.

Fairly heavy showers above 75 mm are likely at some places in Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central and Uva provinces and in Galle and Matara districts.

Showers may occur over the coastal areas of Puttalam to Hambantota via Colombo and Galle during the morning too.

Misty conditions can be expected at some places in Central and Sabaragamuwa provinces during the morning.

General public is kindly requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.

WEATHER FORECAST FOR SEA AREAS AROUND THE ISLAND DURING NEXT 24 HOURS

Issued at 12.00 noon on 07 May 2024.

Condition of Rain:

Showers or thundershowers will occur at several places in the sea areas off the coast extending from Puttalam to Pottuvil via Colombo, Galle and Hambantota.

Winds:

Winds will be southwesterly or variable and wind speed will be (20-30)kmph. Wind speed may increase up to (40-45) kmph at times in the sea areas off the coasts extending from Puttalam to Kankasanthurai via Mannar and from Batticaloa to Hambanthota via Pottuvil.

State of Sea:

The sea areas off the coasts extending from Puttalam to Kankasanthurai via Mannar and from Batticaloa to Hambanthota via Pottuvil can be fairly rough at times.

Temporarily strong gusty winds and very rough seas can be expected during thundershowers.
