The Cyclonic storm ‘GAJA’ over the Southwest Bay of Bengal further moved westwards and located near latitude-10.4N, Longitude-78.5E at 08.30a.m. on 16th November 2018 approximately 180 km away from Kankasanturai to the northwest of Sri Lanka.
The system is very likely to move westwards and weaken gradually into a deep depression during next 03 hours.
The system is moving away from the country. Hence windy and showery condition in the Northern part of the island and Northern sea area is expected to reduce gradually from today(16) evening.
Sea areas off the coast extending from Puttalam to Kankasanturai via Mannar can be rough at times as the wind speed can increase up to 60 kmph during next 12 hours.
Fishermen are advised not to venture into sea areas off coast extending from Mullaitivu to Puttalam via Kankasanturai and Mannar during next 12 hours.
Showers or thundershowers will occur in the sea areas off the coast extending from Puttalam to Kankasanturai via Mannar.
Winds will be Southerly or South-easterly and speed will be 40-50 kmph in the deep sea area extending from Puttalam to Kankasanturai via Mannar from tomorrow morning. Winds will be South-westerly or variable over other sea areas around the island and speed will be 20-30 kmph.
